I'm Now a Music Industry Insider!
Well, maybe I'm not an insider, but I found out yesterday when I got a post-production copy in the mail that I was thanked in the liner notes of the soon-to-be-released Black Dog and Other Stories by English band The Queensberry Rules. The CD will be available for general release on July 24 on Fellside Records, a label that already has several important UK folk acts in their stable. Those of you stateside may need to order it online from one of the shops on this page.
I think that this album compares very favorably with the best of what I've heard lately. In the best folk music tradition, this group writes what it knows -- engaging stories based on life in their corner of England. Their lead vocalist has a top notch tenor voice, the band's backing string arrangements are tight and jangly, and the production is professional. I really liked their previous album, Heritage and History, and I've been playing tracks from the new album on the Online Folk Festival for the last four months or so. If you like the folk band sound of groups like The Duhks or The Bills, then I think you'll like The Queensberry Rules.
